PARADE REST is commanded only from what position?

Parade Rest is a defined transition from a formal, upright stance that keeps the body aligned and controlled. It is commanded from the Position of Attention so that every soldier moves into parade rest from the same starting point, ensuring uniformity and proper bearing. If you’re not at attention, you wouldn’t be in the correct starting posture to execute the transition correctly, which could disrupt alignment and cadence. From attention, you smoothly move into parade rest and adopt the relaxed, formal stance consistently across the formation.
