What is the highest award given by the Army in time of war?

The highest Army award for wartime valor is the Medal of Honor. It is earned by soldiers who display conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in action against an enemy. This level of heroism sets it above all other decorations, so no other Army award tops it during war. The other medals recognize important achievements or acts of gallantry, but they rank below the Medal of Honor: the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Bronze Star for valor or meritorious service, and the Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility.
