Which rank is a non-commissioned officer level rank?

Non-commissioned officers are the enlisted leaders who carry authority through experience and supervision, not commissioned officers. The highest enlisted rank in the Army is Sergeant Major of the Army, a senior NCO who serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff. This rank sits at the E-9 pay grade and is part of the enlisted track. The other options are not NCOs: Major General and Colonel are commissioned officers, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 is a warrant officer, a separate category between enlisted and commissioned officers. So the rank that fits the question as an NCO level rank is Sergeant Major of the Army.
